DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A police officer was shot in the arm while responding to a call about an armed man standing beside a Daytona Beach intersection.
Officers arrived at the scene late Sunday and confronted the man, who fired at them. Daytona Beach police spokeswoman Lyda Longa says officers returned fire and the man ran, but was arrested a short time later.
Longa tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal that "a couple of citizens ran over to the officer and applied pressure to his arm until he could get to the hospital." He is expected to make a full recovery.
Police haven't released the name of the suspect, who is charged with multiple counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, among other charges.
